Dofollow Digest #13: [New data] 2025 link building statistics

Hey, it's Eric đź‘‹

Just saw some fascinating new link building statistics that I think you'll want to hear about. Search Logistics just published an incredible deep dive into the state of link building in 2025, and the data tells a crystal clear story: quality backlinks aren't just still relevant – they're becoming even more crucial for SEO success.

More on our approach and what's working below.

đź“Ł Lite Link Building Package:
We’ve received a lot of requests for a lower price point than our $4k/month package, so we listened. We dropped our Lite Link Building Package for only $2,500/month a few months ago.

It should be noted that this package's DR cap is 69, so you won’t get our usual DR70, 80, and 90+ links that we build for clients. However, it might be a good fit for you if you’re more budget-conscious or in the early stages of building your SEO strategy.

We have about two more slots open in February for this package, so if you want to learn more, you can book a call here: https://dofollow.com/pricing

🔍 DEEP DIVE: The Data Is In: Link Building in 2025

Huge props to Search Logistics for putting together one of the most comprehensive link building studies I've seen recently. Their team analyzed thousands of websites and gathered insights from hundreds of SEO professionals to paint a clear picture of where link building stands in 2025.

Here are the numbers that jumped out at me:

The top-ranking page on Google has an average of 3.8x more backlinks than positions 2-10. Let that sink in. It's not just about having "some" backlinks – the data clearly correlates link quantity and ranking position. But here's the kicker: only 5% of all websites online have any backlinks pointing to them at all.

This creates an incredible opportunity for SaaS companies willing to invest in quality link building. You're not just competing against everyone – you're competing against the small percentage of sites that actually have a link building strategy.

Some other fascinating findings:

  • 92% of marketers believe links will remain a key ranking factor in Google's algorithm for the next 5 years

  • Over 60% of businesses are now outsourcing their link building to professional agencies

  • 51% of marketers see ranking improvements within 1-3 months of starting strategic link building

But here's what really caught my attention: the data shows that long-form content (3,000+ words) consistently attracts more backlinks than shorter content. This aligns perfectly with what we've seen with our SaaS clients – comprehensive resource pages and detailed product comparisons naturally attract more high-quality links.

What does this mean for SaaS companies? Focus on creating comprehensive content that serves as a genuine resource for your industry, then amplify it through strategic outreach to relevant sites. The days of spray-and-pray link building are over—the data shows that targeted, quality-focused approaches move the needle.

Quick note: My good friend Garrett French is conducting a very comprehensive link-building survey as well. If you’d like to participate, here is the link.
